What is the best time to arrive in the car parks.

RIAT has three designated car parks. RED, BLUE and GREEN.

Car parks open at 6am so there earlier you get there the better. Once parked up and out the car. Queues do start to form from 5am. The main gates then open at 7.30am, so if you are near the front of the queue you will get in quicker giving you more time to view the static, getting front row seats by the rope of the display line.

You must not follow the Sat Nav once in sight of the Yellow AA signs. These will direct you to the correct car parks. These are set up well in advance of the base given you plenty of planning time.

CAN I EXPERIENCE THE WHOLE EVENT IN ONE DAY?

Unfortunately, no — RIAT is massive!
 Although RIAT is officially a three-day event, we find that two days is usually enough to experience the majority of what it has to offer.
If you're only attending for one day, it’s important to think about what you want to get out of the experience.
 If you're not a photographer and just want to soak up the atmosphere, you might spend part of the day exploring the vast static aircraft displays, and the rest finding a good spot to enjoy the impressive 7+ hour flying display.
If you're a photographer and planning to attend for all three days (as I often do), here’s a routine that works well for me:
 • Friday – Focus on photographing the static displays before flying begins at 11am. Once flying ends around 2pm, explore the trade stalls and catch anything you missed on the ground.
 • Saturday – I head to the east end of the airfield. This spot offers a unique perspective of the flying display and great opportunities to capture taxiing, take-offs, and landings.
 • Sunday – I spend the day at the Viewing Village. It’s a more relaxed experience, perfect for capturing different angles of aircraft on departure and enjoying the show at a gentler pace.

Q: Is RIAT family-friendly?
 A: Very much so! There are family zones, STEM exhibits, funfair rides, and interactive displays for all ages. Children under 18 go free with a paying adult.
Q: What should I bring for kids?
 A: Bring ear defenders (it's loud!), sun protection, snacks, and a lightweight stroller for younger ones — the airfield is huge. Shade and rest areas are available.
Q: What’s it like camping with children?
 A: Campsites are family-friendly, but it’s worth choosing one with clean facilities and quieter sections. Arrive early to pitch somewhere a bit away from late-night groups.
